It has been a busy first week back in Year 1. The children are loving our new topic all about the Great Fire of London. It has been great to see how enthusiastic the children are about their learning around this. This week we have started learning ‘London’s Burning’ as part of our music topic this half term. We have spent this week discussing pitch, with some children even starting to learn the round. We can’t wait to do some more work on this next week. Here is a video of our progress on the song so far!

Samba rehearsals

Sam the Sound Man
In Autumn 2, 4A had a visit from Sam the sound man. They learnt so many amazing things about sound from how echoes work to ways we could make their own instruments. They all really enjoyed the session and it really helped deepen their Science learning for this half term. A couple of cool facts they learnt were: hard materials produce more echoes, there is no sound in space and the bigger the object the lower the sound it will make.

They also finished our samba topic in Music by collating all the rhythms they learnt this half term to create a final piece of work. Mr Ash was really impressed with the children’s perseverance in the subject as they are now a lot more confident at playing as part of a group or as individuals.
Carols around the tree
