5P thoroughly enjoyed their Samba sessions with music specialist, Mrs Cossavella. They quickly learned their parts, creating a wonderful, collective sound.

Year 3 have been learning all about music notation. In the video you will see them clapping and along and using their voices to 4 beat bars using ‘frogs, tadpoles and rests.’ The frog represents a crotchet and the tadpole represents a quaver.
The they progressed to only clapping the frogs and tadpoles. After that, they were able to clap a 4 beat bar reading the notation in their head and clapping along.
Here is how reading music progresses.

They start with tadpoles and frogs, then to the notes without the stem, then finally to reading notation.
They have been exploring Garageband. They created drum patterns using the beat sequencer and then started to create a simple four note pattern. They learnt about the different notes on a piano and realised that they repeat themselves started at A and going to G but not to H! Here are a few snippets of the tracks they have started to create.
This morning 3H had a fantastic music lesson where they learnt all about tempo, pitch as well as ostinatos and began to read notation.
They explored tempo and pitch by singing a song and then varying the tempo and pitch. They were able to notice what had changed and how. ‘The tempo was faster.’ ‘The pitch was higher.’ From this, they were also able to internalise the song. We added actions and began to take certain words out. By the end we had internalised the song so we didn’t sing anything out loud- only the actions!
They learnt that ostinato means something that repeats over and over again. They created a word ostinato and we performed it as a round.
These videos show them exploring pitch and tempo. As well as, reading notation. They had a fantastic time with Mrs Cossavella.

On Tuesday, a group of Year 3 children went to Pudsey Civic Hall. They had a very exciting time listening to Youth Music Proms.

They experienced performances from three of the senior City of Leeds Youth Music groups made up of some of the best young musicians from across Leeds:
· City of Leeds Youth Orchestra Strings
· City of Leeds Youth Wind Orchestra
· LYJRO (Leeds Youth Jazz-Rock Orchestra)
On Wednesday 13th March, our ACE Choir hosted the CCJ Spring Concert. It was wonderful to come together with the choirs of Brodetsky and Highfield Primary Schools to enjoy singing and celebrate our diverse school communities. This was the fourth CCJ (Council of Christians and Jews) concert, the last one in 2019, and we were honoured and excited that the Lord Mayor of Leeds was compere for the night.
We were so proud of our ACE Choir who gave stunning performances of One and a Million and Touch the Sky. All their hard work paid off and it was a joy to see their confidence and smiles.

We really loved the performances from Brodetsky and Highfield and it was a special moment when the three choirs performed the massed finale, Sing.

Thank you to all the families who came to support. It was a really wonderful evening!
This afternoon, LSK2 were lucky enough to experience a live samba performance from 4A. Watch the video below to see their brilliant show. Well done 4A!
It has been a busy first week back in Year 1. The children are loving our new topic all about the Great Fire of London. It has been great to see how enthusiastic the children are about their learning around this. This week we have started learning ‘London’s Burning’ as part of our music topic this half term. We have spent this week discussing pitch, with some children even starting to learn the round. We can’t wait to do some more work on this next week. Here is a video of our progress on the song so far!
